On Sunday, January 30, Rafael Nadal created history by winning 21 grand slams in the men’s singles category by prevailing over Daniil Medvedev in a heart-wrenching five-setter. Even though Medvedev finished as the runner-up, he graciously accepted his defeat and congratulated Nadal on his outstanding victory “You are an amazing champion.”

Post-match, Medvedev commented, “You raised your level after two sets for the 21st Grand Slam. I thought you were going to get tired. Maybe just a little but you still won the match.” His speech was absolutely loved by the audience. Nobody could deny the unbelievable feat that Nadal had achieved that day.

The 25-year-old Russian broke the Spanish player in the 5th and 7th game, grabbing the first set. Even though the second set went till tie brake, Medvedev didn’t give in and won it. However, with the 21st grand slam on the line, Nadal couldn’t give up so soon. He fought back from two sets down and won the next three consecutive sets in the most epic way. Over the sets, Nadal’s serve started becoming more strong and more stable just like his match against Shapavalov in the fifth set.

“1st, Congrats to the winner Rafa Nadal for this amazing win ..whoua…” says Cervara after the match concluded. “2nd, big big congrats and very very proud of Daniil for what I saw and felt on every match…specially 1/4, 1/2, and final…” Even though Medvedev couldn’t get his second grand slam that day, it doesn’t change the fact that he put on an excellent fight against the current 21 grand slam champion.
