Find out Andy Murray’s schedule for February 2022!
Andy Murray
Currently ranked 102nd in the world, Andy Murray will return to Tour action after a good run in Australia. The Brit came very close to winning his first title since 2019 but was defeated in the finals of the Tour event in Sydney. Being ranked outside the Top-100, by the virtue of a wildcard, Murray entered the main-draw of the 2022 Australian Open.
After surviving a thrilling 5-set battle in the first round against Nikoloz Basilashvili, he lost in straight-sets to Japan’s Taro Daniel who ended Murray’s run at Melbourne Park. The 2nd round run however pushed Murray’s rank further ahead as he nears the Top-100. He was ranked 134th when he entered Australia and moved 32 places to 102 while returning from Down Under.
While his rank remains outside Top-100, it is difficult for the 3-time Grand Slam champion to enter the main-draw of tournaments directly and needs either a wildcard or go through the qualifiers. However, the track record of the former World No. 1 has made it easy for him to enter the tournaments through wildcards.
Murray will be playing in 3 events in February, all via wildcards. Murray will start at the ATP-500 Rotterdam Open 2022 which begins on 7th February and will be an indoor hardcourt event. Murray is a former champion having won the title in 2009. After his stint in the Netherlands, he will travel to Doha for the ATP-250 Qatar Open 2022 played on outdoor hardcourts starting from 14th February.
Murray had won the title in Qatar in 2008 and 2009. His final tournament of February will be the ATP-500 Dubai Championships 2022 which begin on 21st February with Murray being a former champion having won the title in 2017. Murray will be joined by Novak Djokovic in Dubai with the Serbian starting his 2022 season there.
Andy Murray fired his coach after the Australian Open
His 8 matches played in Australia have made his record at 5-3 for the 2022 season and the Brit hopes to have a good long season that remains injury-free. Murray has shaken up things and has let go of his temporary coach Jan De Witt who was on a trial basis with the Brit.
“The decision is an important one for me because obviously, I don’t know how much longer I’m going to be playing so I want to make sure that the person that’s with me for the last period of my career is the right one,” Murray had said regarding his decision to part ways with Witt.
