This year, Zverev has been the target of a lot of criticism. His tantrum in Acapulco was a shocking show of poor behaviour, but the world no. 3 appears to have regained his composure as he prepares to face Casper Ruud in the Miami Open quarterfinals. Nevertheless, now, under the current circumstances, analysis indicates that the 24-year-old has a strong chance to claim the World No.1 ranking at Monte Carlo Masters.
How will Alexander Zverev take a step forward towards the World No.1 ranking?
Under the present situation, the German stands a good chance of finishing first in the ATP rankings. At the Australian Open earlier this year, he had the same opportunity. But, following a drab fourth-round match in Melbourne against Dennis Shapovalov, he lost the golden chance. If Zverev wins the title in Miami, he will be only 400 points behind the World No. 1 in the world rankings. However, only if Daniil Medvedev falls in the Miami quarterfinals, this will happen.
