Coco Gauff vs Qiang Wang: Match Preview

Coco Gauff
Coco Gauff

The young American is coming into this year’s French Open with momentum, owing to her successful season on the dirt. With just three defeats in 16 matches, Gauff is one of the form players on clay. She even won the title at Parma a few weeks ago. Before her success in Parma, the 17-year-old also managed to reach the semifinals in Rome, before Iga Swiatek stopped her in straight sets.

It is also interesting to note that she kicked off her clay swing with a quarterfinal appearance in Charleston, before eventually moving to Europe. She beat Aleksandra Krunic in straight sets in Paris and will be keen on making her first ever third round appearance in the French capital.

On the other hand, the Chinese girl is coming into the second round after beating Su-Wei-Hsieh in three sets. Although she stumbled early on the clay in Istanbul, Madrid and Rome, her journey into the finals of Parma would have given her the confidence ahead of the French Open. The 29-year-old has already beaten seasoned players Petra Martic and Sloane Stephens and it will be interesting to see what she can accomplish going ahead in Paris.

Expect some resistance and fight from the Chinese girl in this contest. Although we might not see a third set, it is almost certain that we will see a much closer contest as compared to the one they played recently in Italy. All said, the American should prevail without much discomfort.

Match Prediction: Coco Gauff should win in two sets
