French Open 2021: Day 5- Federer, Djokovic, Berrettini advance into the third round; Karatsev knocked out

Day 5 of the French Open 2021 had several big names on offer, as the likes of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic safely booked a place in the third round on Thursday. There were not many upsets, as the top seeds managed to progress ahead. With their wins, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer remain on collision course as they are expected to clash in the quarterfinals.
Roger Federer storms past Marin Cilic

Roger Federer managed to book a place in the last 32 of French Open, after his four set victory over Marin Cilic on Thursday. The Swiss maestro won by a score line of 6-2, 2-6, 7-6, 6-2. Roger Federer served 16 aces during the match, and won about 75% on his first serve. The 39-year old managed to convert five of his 16 break point opportunities, and won 126 points during the whole match. On the other hand, Marin Cilic won 111 points, and served six double faults.
Novak Djokovic wins in straight sets

Novak Djokovic thrashed Pablo Cuevas in the second round of the French Open 2021. The Serbian won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. He served 10 aces during the whole match, and served four double faults. He converted five of his eight break point opportunities, and in return, was broken only once. He won 98 points during the match, whereas, Cuevas won 70 points. Djokovic made the most of Cuevas’ second serve, and put it under tremendous pressure.
Matteo Berrettini continues his fine form

Matteo Berrettini has been the most impressive player this clay court season. The Italian defeated Federico Coria in straight sets by a score line of 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 to progress into the next round. It was a ruthless performance from the Italian as he served five aces, and won 82% of his points on first serve. Moreover, he broke his opponent on six occasions, and was broken only once in the match. He won 99 points compared to his opponent’s tally of 71 points.
Aslan Karatsev falls in the third round

Aslan Karatsev faced a shocking defeat in the third round of French Open 2021. He lost to the German, Philipp Kohlschreiber in four sets in the second round. The Russian lost 3-6, 6-7, 6-4, 1-6. Karatsev was broken three times during the match, as the German converted all of his break point opportunities. It was a shocking performance from Karatsev, as he failed to take his chances.
