Day 6 of the French Open 2021 saw several NextGen players in action. The likes of Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev secured straight sets victories, and have progressed into the fourth round. Casper Ruud saw his remarkable run come to an end, as he was defeated by the Spaniard, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in a five set thriller.

Alexander Zverev wins in straight sets

Alexander Zverev stormed past the Serbian, Laslo Djere in straight sets by a score-line of 6-2, 7-5, 6-2. The German served four aces during the whole match, and won over 70% of the points on his first and second serves. The sixth seed converted 7 out of his 10 break point opportunities, whereas, he was broken just two times. Zverev won 109 points during the match, and Djere won just 79 points. Zverev put Djere’s second serve under tremendous pressure throughout the match.

Daniil Medvedev continues his dream run in Paris

Daniil Medvedev had never made it to even the second round of the French Open before. However, the Russian has now progressed into the fourth round in Paris, after a straight sets victory over the American, Reilly Opelka. Medvedev served 10 aces during the match, whereas, Opelka served five aces. The second seed was exceptional on his serve, and won above 85% of his points on first serve. He also converted five of his 16 break point opportunities, and won 95 points as compared to Opelka’s 66 points.

Casper Ruud suffers a heartbreaking loss

Casper Ruud suffered a heartbreaking loss in the third round, as he was defeated in a five set thriller by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The Norwegian lost 6-7, 6-2, 6-7, 6-0, 5-7. Ruud broke his opponent on eight occasions, and in return, was broken on only four occasions. Although, Ruud won more points, yet it was Fokina who managed to hold his nerve during vital parts of the match.

Federico Delbonis defeated the Italian, Fabio Fognini in straight sets to progress into the fourth round. The Argentine won by a score-line of 6-4, 6-1, 6-3. Fognini managed to win just 30% of his points on second serve, which proved to be a vital factor in Delbonis’ factor. On the other hand, Delbonis won about 80% of his points on first serve.
