Marketa Vondrousova vs Harmony Tan: Match Preview
The 21-year-old is having a poor time on the clay in 2021, as compared to her impressive run in 2019, where she surprised one and all by reaching the finals of Roland Garros, before she was denied the title by Ash Barty. In the process, she became the first teenager to contest the French Open final since Ana Ivanovic in 2007 and the first to play in any Grand Slam final since Caroline Wozniacki at the 2009 US Open.
With only two wins in five matches, Vondrousova hasn’t had the best preparation for this year’s French Open. After her second round exit in Stuttgart, the Czech player made two consecutive opening round exits in Madrid and Rome. However, the southpaw will take heart from the fact that she was able to beat Kia Kanepi in three sets in the opening round of this year’s French Open.
On the other hand, the Frenchwoman has been a surprise package on the dirt this season with 11 wins four defeats. Starting her clay season in Bogota as a qualifier, Tan reached the semis before she was defeated by Maria Serrano. Later, she also made the semis of Saint-Malo. But perhaps her biggest win came in the opening round of this year’s French Open, after she beat Alize Cornet in two sets.
