It has been a very erratic time for the big-serving American on the hard courts over the past few months. After kicking off the North American hard court swing with high in Atlanta, Fritz suffered multiple premature exits till the 2021 US Open. Thereafter, the 24-year-old has found a new gear, owing to which he made the semis in Indian Wells, followed by a runner-up finish in St. Petersburg last week.

Fritz comes into this match after beating Italian Lorenzo Sonego in three sets in the last round. Considering his recent run on the hard surface, the World No.26 will be a force to reckon with in the indoor courts of Paris.

On the other hand, Rublev too has blown hot and cold on the hard courts this season. After reaching the finals of the 2021 Cincinnati Masters, the Russian faltered early at the US Open, before making amends again at the San Diego Open. That said, he was also prematurely stunned in Moscow and St. Petersburg in the past few weeks.

Although the 24-year-old’s confidence might be a bit shaken, the World No.6 will be keen on faring better in the French capital, before he moves to the World Tour Finals in Turin, next month.
