From Daniil Medvedev to Manchester United, sports world unites in support of Ukraine as the war with Russia continues

Russian forces on the order of their President Vladimir Putin marched into the Ukrainian territory on 24th February 2022 starting a war between the two countries. As soldiers from both sides continue to fight for their respective nations, tennis stars including Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Elina Svitolina, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Amanda Anisimova and many others across the globe have come forward in showing support towards Ukrainians.
Ukrainian players Dayana Yastremska and her younger sister Ivanna Yastremska walked onto the court with the flag of Ukraine covering their bags. Elina Svitolina issued a statement that she won’t play any match against a player from Russia or Belarus and hopes that the tennis community takes better actions towards the Russian aggression. Medvedev despite becoming World No. 1 said that the war had spoiled his celebrations and he had mixed emotions about the ascension.
Apart from the tennis stars, sports clubs and associations have come together in taking actions to show solidarity with the citizens of Ukraine as they continue to fight for their safety and freedom. Football clubs like Manchester United and Schalke 04 have ended their long-standing deals with Russian companies. All football matches over the weekend saw ‘No War’ signs carried prior to the kickoff.
In England, during the finals of the League Cup between the football clubs Liverpool and Chelsea, the players stood together with a wreath of the colours of the flag of Ukraine laid in front of them showing the country its support. FIFA and UEFA, the two big governing bodies in football have already announced the suspension of all Russian National teams and club which means Russia are now out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Formula 1 cancels the Russian Grand Prix
The Russian Grand Prix in the Formula 1 has been cancelled for the foreseeable future while Ukrainian NBA players Svi Mykhailiuk of Toronto Raptors and Alex Len of Sacramento Kings issued a joint statement wishing for the war to end quickly and giving strength to their compatriots who are fighting for the independence of their nation.
