Monfils withdrew from the Monte Carlo Open on his doctor’s advice of resting the injured foot. Monfils has had great results in Monte Carlo. He even managed to get into the finals in the 2016 edition, where he lost to the great Rafael Nadal.

Monfils took to his Twitter account and announced the reason for his withdrawal from the tournament, “Hi all, sadly I have had to withdraw from Monte-Carlo following an issue with my foot. Doctors have advised me to rest before it gets more serious. I am planning to be back in time for Madrid! See you soon.”

He was advised to rest before his tournament in Madrid so that he could give his foot some time to heal before playing in Madrid. Monfils’s rest would mean that he would also have to drop out of Serbia Open 2022 in Belgrade. A double whammy for Monfils, who would have wanted to have some good results, maybe even his 12th singles title, capitalizing on his current form. But, he would want to continue his career for more than one or two tournaments, so it’s crucial he gives his body some time to heal.
