Casper Ruud vs Dominik Koepfer: Match Preview

Casper Ruud
Casper Ruud

The twenty two year old Norwegian, Ruud, is a promising young talent. He has already won an ATP Title, in Buenos Aires  in 2020. On clay this year he has been nothing short of sensational. He reached the Semi-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters, beaten by Andrey Rublev at that stage. In Munich Open he again got defeated after reaching the Semi-finals, this time by Nikoloz Basilashvili. At Madrid Open he completed a hat-trick of three back to back Semi-final appearances. Stopped by Matteo Berrettini this time.

Second seed at the Geneva Open this time round, maybe this is where he picks up his second ATP Title. After a bye in the first round, Ruud got the better of American Tennys Sandgren in the second, 7-5 6-2. His opponent in the Quarter-finals is German Dominik Koepfer.

Koepfer is twenty-six and still doesn’t have an ATP Trophy to his name. His last tournament was the Madrid Open where he had reached the round of thirty-two. In this tournament so far, he beat Frenchman Benoît Paire in the first round. In the second round he got the better of Feliciano López of Spain, in three sets 7-6 6-7 6-3.

Casper Ruud vs Dominik Koepfer: Prediction

Casper Ruud
Casper Ruud

Ruud can well win his second title here. The Norwegian might not serve up aces at will but he has an effective serve. He has great topspin on both his forehand and backhand which makes him  difficult opposition on clay. Koepfer is stronger on his backhand side and likes to dominate games, but that move might backfire against Ruud who has ample amounts of both patience and quality.

Match Prediction: Casper Ruud will beat Dominik Koepfer in straight sets.
