Stricker, the eighteen year old Swiss Wild Card entry, is churning out one result after another and making people sit up and take notice. In the first round he out-served the veteran Marin Čilić. Stricker served nine aces compared to Marin’s four, and won 80% of his first serve points. Running out winner in straight sets 7-6 6-1.
In the second round he took on Márton Fucsovics of Hungary and again out-served him, serving up as many as six aces compared to his opponents three. One could tell that Fucsovics was trying to go for the big aces, under pressure from his eighteen year old doing so, and failing. Fucsovics served up four double faults in the process. Strict converted five of his eight break points to finish this match in straight sets, 7-5 6-4. In the third round he will take on the thirty-five year old from Spain Pablo Andujar.
Andujar has been on the tour for eighteen years now, as long as the age of his opponent, has won four ATP titles in that time. All four of his titles have come on clay. His last title came in the year 2018 on the clay courts of Marrakesh. In this tournament, the Spaniard is having a gala time. In the first round he ousted Jordan Thompson of Australia in straight sets. In the second round he registered the biggest win of his career, a win that he will tell his grandkids as bedtime stories, he beat who some call ‘The Greatest Tennis player that ever lived’, Roger Federer. Andujar won in three sets, 6-4 4-6 6-4.

Andujar is no mug with his service or returns either, and will try to use every ounce of experience that he has. This is actually a very tight match which could go either way.
