Fabio Fognini vs Laslo Đere: Match Preview
Fabio Fognini has in total won nine ATP Titles, and out of those eight have been won on clay. His last title win was the Monte Carlo Masters in 2019. The last couple of years have not been that great for Fognini and that has seen him tumble out of the top-10 and now he stands on the verge of being ousted from the top.30.
His start to the clay court leg of the season has not been that great either. Apart from the Monte Carlo event, where he lost to Casper Rudd in the Quarters, he has not gone beyond a couple of rounds in any of the tournaments. In the first round, he beat World No.55 Guido Pella in straight sets, 6-2 6-2. His opponent in the second round is Laslo Dere.
Twenty-five year old Laslo Dere from Serbia has two ATP Titles to his credit. The Sardinia Open from 2020, and the Rio Open from 2019, and both those titles have been won on clay. His form this year on clay has not been that great though. He started off well, by reaching the Finals of the Sardinia Open 2021, but since then he has tapered off.
At Monte Carlo Masters and the Serbia Open he was ousted in the first round, and couldn’t make it past the Qualifiers at Madrid Open. At the Italian Open he lost to Pablo Carreño Busta, once again in the first round, 6-4 3-6 1-6. In the first round he beat Brazilian Thiago Monteiro in three sets, 6-7 6-3 7-5.

Fabio Fognini vs Laslo Đere: Prediction
Fognini on clay plays with flair and aggression. His pace across the court and his movement give him the edge over most opponents on this surface. Đere will be looking forward to making amends to the average season that he has had so far. His heavy spin laden forehands and natural movement on clay are his biggest assets. But that might not be enough to stop Fognini who seems to have regained a bit of form in the last encounter against Pela.
Match Prediction: Fabio Fognini will beat Laslo Đere in three sets.
