Roger Federer vs Pablo Andujar: Preview
Swiss Maestro Roger Federer will be back on tour after 2 months at the Geneva Open. He last played in Doha where he lost in the quarter-final to Nikoloz Basilashvili. This will also be Federer’s first tournament on Clay in two years. He last played on the red dirt at Roland Garros 2019.
The top seed has played just one tournament since the 2020 Australian Open. He was sidelined from the tour due to a knee injury. His focus this year will be on Wimbledon and Tokyo Olympics this year and the Clay court stinct will provide him enough match practice.
His opponent, Pablo Andujar has struggled on Clay this season. The Spaniard has been hitting poorly from the baseline and has won just won just one match in 4 tournaments. In the first round in Geneva, he showed signs of good form. He defeated Jordan Thompson of Australia in straight sets 6-0,6-4.
Roger Federer vs Pablo Andujar: Head-to-Head
This will be the first meeting between the duo. They haven’t met on tour yet and hence their H2H stands deadlock at 0-0.
Roger Federer vs Pablo Andujar: Prediction
Although he hasn’t played much tennis, Roger Federer will be the favorite going into the match. The Swiss has been training hard on Clay for the last two weeks and given his years of experience, it shouldn’t be a tough task for him.
But he will be wary of Andujar’s defense. The Spaniard defended well against Thompson in the opening round and could be a tricky opponent. Having said that, Federer should cruise into the quarter-finals.
Prediction: Federer to win in straight sets.
