World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is all set to play his first match this season when he takes the court at the 2022 Dubai Championships where he is the top seed and formerly a 5-time champion of the tournament. This will be Djokovic’s first match since the entire Australian episode that saw him get deported and also received a 3-year ban from entering the country.

With Djokovic ready to put the matter behind him and look ahead to the season, the Serbian recently gave a detailed interview to BBC about his take on Covid-19 vaccination and what actually happened in Australia from his perspective. In the interview, Djokovic talked about being ready to miss tournaments including the Grand Slams if vaccination is compulsory.

While this has again given a rise to a debate about the 20-time Grand Slam’s champion attitude and perspective on vaccination despite being banned from a country where he has been a 9-time Grand Slam champion. Novak, unbothered from the discussions, also shared a cute incident between him and his son Stefan.

“I didn’t want to watch the match because I wanted to be on the court… I was amused because my wife was encouraging Medvedev and my son Nadal. He was jumping everywhere every point Rafa made and raised his fist like him. He asked me a few days ago when was the next tournament Rafa and I will both be in. I said “I hope soon” but I asked him why. He said he would really like to take a picture with Rafa” said Djokovic, eclipsing the rivalry he and Rafael Nadal have shared on the court.

With Novak heading to Dubai, Rafa is expected to feature at the 2022 Acapulco Open in Mexico. Post that, the ATP Tour will move to the USA for the 2022 Indian Wells Masters followed by the 2022 Miami Masters. While Nadal has been confirmed for the tournament in Indian Wells, Djokovic remains a doubt given the USA making full vaccination against Covid-19 for foreigners wishing to enter the country.

It could be a wait till April when the Clay season begins but everything will remain subject to the policy of the respective country for entry to foreign nationals as the Serbian is quite clear on his stance against getting jabbed for the vaccine.
