‘Getting closer,’ Tomas Etcheverry takes a hilarious jibe at Novak Djokovic as he enters the top 100 in ATP Rankings

Tennis in Argentina is evolving and it is happening at a very steady rate. After the reign of Juan Martin Del Potro and David Nalbandian, the tide has now shifted to youngsters like Sebastian Baez, brothers Francisco and Juan Manuel Cerundolo and the latest name to this list has to be Tomas Etcheverry from La Plata.
Tomas Etcheverry recently broke into the top 100 in the ATP rankings after reaching the finals at Challenger 125 event in Mexico. The 22-year-old s waiting for his participation in the Tallahassee Challenger that is scheduled for next Monday in Florida.
However, his story is very famous on social media after he challenged World No. 1 Novak Djokovic back in 2016. It was then he appeared in the ATP rankings after achieving his first point in the Future 3 in Salinas. After he gained the point he lifted a placard challenging Djokovic, comparing both their points.
Recently when he broke into the top 100 rankings, he once again repeated the action of writing his points and comparing them with Djokovic. While it is done for fun, it also proves the determination and hard that Etcheverry has put in to get here. It is graduating in tennis for him as he aims to take it forward.

Etcheverry was very emotional when he realised that he has breach the top 100 ATP rankings. Speaking to a local news outlet, the 22-year-old said, “I am really overflowing with happiness, since I started playing it was a dream to be among the best 100 players in the world.”
The tall Argentine will now feature in the Tallahassee Challenge and then after that play the qualifiers in the Madrid and Rome 1000 Masters events. He will then prepare for the Roland Garros, which actually is his primary aim.
The youngster highlighted how getting inside the top 100 rankings will open up new avenues for him. “Being among the top 100 players in the world opens many doors for me. Although it is a reward for sacrifice and the work that I have been doing on a daily basis. But not that it has arrived, the coming difficult part is coming, that is to stay. So now I am going to double my efforts to be better every day,” Etcheverry concluded.
