“Glad Zverev lost,” Tennis Twitter reacts after Stefanos Tsitsipas crushes Alexander Zverev’s world number 1 dream after a stunning victory
Stefanos Tsitsipas
It was a somewhat sedate match between two of the world’s best players after a stunning set of quarter-finals and a twisty first semi-final, but reigning champion Stefanos Tsitsipas got the job done, defeating Alexander Zverev 6-4, 6-2.
Both players struggled in the first set, with five service breaks. Tsitsipas, with yet another break, managed to pull it out, 6-4 after 43 minutes. In the previous game, Zverev’s serve had appeared shaky, but a double-fault helped him narrow the difference to 5-4. However, Tsitsipas finished the match slightly over half an hour later. With this victory, the Greek not only took a step forward toward defending his title but also crushed Alexander Zverev’s chances of sitting at the top of the ATP ranking ladder. Nevertheless, Tsitsipas will now face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final showdown and will look forward to defending his title.
