Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic spent most of the last season confused about his participation status at the Australian Open 2022. But this season he got a green card from the Aussie Open authorities and flew to Melbourne to compete for his 21st Grand Slam title but his quest ended before its commencement as he was stopped from entering the city by the airport border police because he was not vaccinated.

After this, a series of interrogations were done and the star was held for nine hours at the airport. There was a trial in which he and his lawyer failed to come up with evidence proving the player was not vaccinated as he was suffering from covid and he was deported from Australia.

Djokovic has made it clear that he will not get vaccinated even if it means that he has to miss tennis tournaments. The French Open has virtually made it clear that it will be mandatory for all the players to get vaccinated before the competition. It seems that the World No.1 has to miss a lot of tournaments if he chooses to stay unvaccinated which will also lead to other tennis stars grabbing his World No.1 position.

But recently a piece of important news gained heat. The news was of the Italian sports minister where he made a statement on the tournaments to be held in Rome. Djokovic, who reached the final of the Rome Masters last year where he lost to Rafael Nadal, will be allowed to play the Masters 1000 event in May.

“It’s an outdoor sport and the tighter green pass is not required, so if he wants to come he will be able to do so. Maybe without visiting hotels & restaurants,” was stated by Valentina Vezzali. This means that Novak will be able to play in Rome and make a step forward to again conquer the tennis World.
