“He is just a beast!” Leylah Fernandez on Wanting to Swap Lives With Christiano Ronaldo
Leylah Fernandez is slowly rising in her career as a tennis player after some fantastic performances in the 2022 season. She has not made a good start to the 2022 season but certainly has the talent to improve on her performances in the coming weeks with a lot of action left in the season going ahead.
Leylah recently named football legend Cristiano Ronaldo as the person with whom she would like to switch lives for a day. On and off the field, the Canadian expressed her desire to experience the emotions that come with being a “beast.” Ronaldo is a Portuguese footballer who captains the Portugal national team and plays as a forward for Manchester United in the Premier League.
He is one of the most accomplished players in football history and is widely viewed as one of the greatest players of all time. He has a long list of world records and has won 32 trophies throughout his career. The Canadian tennis star emphasized her wish to experience personally how the Manchester United and Portuguese icon went about his daily routines in an interview with the Tennis Channel as part of their Warm & Fuzzy series.
She said, “Someone I would switch places with for a day? Cristiano Ronaldo. He is just a beast off the field and on the field. So I want to switch places with him, see how he manages everything. I want to [learn from a champion like that].”
Leylah Fernandez on How She Keeps Her Cool
During the interview, Fernandez also covered some warmer topics, such as how she kept herself calm during matches. The World No. 19 said that singing Rebel Yell by Billy Idol and Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’ to herself helped her relieve her mind.
She said, “I would just sing songs in my head [to get in a warm, fuzzy mindset on the court],” Fernandez said. “My favourite one would be either ‘Don’t Stop Believin” or ‘Rebel Yell’ from Billy Idol.”
Fernandez to Be Back On Tour
This season, Fernandez hasn’t gotten off to a strong start. Following a second-round exit at the Adelaide International at the start of the year, the 19-year-old was upset by local favourite Maddison Inglis in her Australian Open opening. Since then, Fernandez hasn’t played a match, although World No. 19 is on the Indian Wells Open entry list.
Last year, she made her tournament debut and advanced to the fourth round. The Canadian will be striving for a strong showing at the WTA 1000 tournament this year. The event, which runs from March 9 to 20, will be headlined by World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty and will include the top five female players on the WTA tour.
