Despite being set to return from injury after almost three years to get back on the court in Buenos Aires, it was not to be a happy ending for Juan Martin del Potro. The Argentine announced on Saturday that he would retire after the South American clay tournaments get over.
Despite being just 33, which is a relatively young age in tennis, del Potro will be forced to retire as the once superstar powerhouse performer has been blighted with injuries for some time now, a decision which might finally allow him to live his life pain-free.

In his much-awaited comeback match, which has left the whole tennis world quivering with excitement, Juan Martin del Potro will take on 6th seed Federico Delbonis at the ATP 250 Cordoba Open. The encounter might well be the penultimate match of his tennis career if he fails to win.
The monumental occasion would be made even more special with the presence of his mother at his comeback match. Del Potro’s mother Patricia is set to be In attendance of the match as reported by journalist Michal Samulski. The former World No.5’s mother has never attended any match of his in his long career, despite him being on the circuit since 2005.
With his retirement imminent, it is a shame that a player with the amount of talent del Potro had could never reach his true potential due to injuries. After his breakthrough US Open win in 2009, the Argentine had immediately suffered a wrist injury which ruined his 2010 season. Since then, despite showing what he could have been in brief periods, his injury problems have just kept on getting worse.
