“Hopefully I can implement some of your game” Heartbreak for Danielle Collins as she finishes runner-up to Ash Barty in the finals of the 2022 Australian Open
Danielle Collins and Ash Barty
World No. 1 Ash Barty reigns supreme on her home turf as she defeated World No. 30 Danielle Collins in the finals of the 2022 Australian Open finals to claim her 3rd Grand Slam title and first Australian Open title. It was a fantastic performance by Barty as she won the match 6-3, 7-6(2) in 1 hour and 27 minutes.
Barty was 1-5 down in the second set but fought her way back by breaking Collins in consecutive games and holding her serve to make it 5-5 and then both players held their serve to take the match into the tiebreaker where the Australian overpowered as the crowd cheered on her every point and was behind their favourite player throughout the match with deadly silences when Collins won a point.
It was a close match with Barty winning the title with 69 points to her name while Collins finished second with 60 points. Barty had a good time with her service hitting 10 aces while Collins had only 1 ace throughout the match and could manage only 17 winners while Barty had 29. Barty had 22 unforced errors and Collins had 21, with the fewer winners ultimately ending Collin’s dream of her first major.
“I think I owe congratulations to Ash on a phenomenal 2 weeks here and a couple of a phenomenal couple of years here. Its been tremendous to watch her. Climbing the rankings all the way to No. 1 and without her dream, I really admire you as a player and the variety of your game and hopefully, I can implement some of it in mine.
