‘I am not interested in having rallies against Diego Schwartzman,’ Nick Kyrgios announces he will not be a part of the clay-court season

Nick Kyrgios is undoubtedly one of the most controversial and entertaining players on the tennis tour. The Australian’s real prowess comes on the hard courts, where he has achieved good amount of success. Recently, just prior to the Australian Open 2022, Kyrgios was brought down by covid-19.
The Australian stated that having contacted the virus, did hamper his confidence, and he does not feel the same player as he was a few weeks ago. “I’m feeling OK but COVID definitely knocked me around a fair bit, in the sense that I definitely don’t feel as good as I did three weeks ago, or two weeks ago, confidence-wise,” said Kyrgios.
The 26-year-old has announced that he will not be a part of the clay court swing later this year, just like the previous two years.
Nick Kyrgios is a player who loves and prefers to spend time with his family, and playing video games. He has before stated that playing tennis is not the sole motive of his life. The Australian played just 8 tournaments in total in 2021, which included three Grandslam events.

Nick Kyrgios not interested in the clay court swing
Nick Kyrgios gave a rather ‘Kyrgios’ style reply when giving the reason for not competing during the clay court season. The Australian stated that he is not interested in having 30-point rallies with Argentine, Diego Schwartzman.
“I am not going to have 30-point rallies against Diego Schwartzman,” said Nick Kyrgios to The Age.
Nick Kyrgios also missed the clay court swing during the 2020 and 2021 season. Clay courts are considered to be the most grueling courts in the game, as it takes a lot of a player’s legs. Kyrgios will instead focus on the grass court season, where he has again done well over the years.
Nick Kyrgios also pulled out of French Open in 2018 and 2019, owing to injuries. He last played at the French Open in 2017, where he lost to Kevin Anderson in four sets in the second round.
