World No. 20 Taylor Fritz is quickly rising to be one of the flagbearers of American tennis. The youngster is putting in consistent performances and despite not picking up silverware, he has been fairly consistent with his performances in reaching the final few rounds of the tournaments he participates in.
As popular as Taylor is, his relationship with his girlfriend Morgan Riddle also has the tennis fraternity talking a lot. Morgan recently made the headlines when she compiled many of Taylor’s clips revolving around his life as a Pro on the Tour. The video went viral quickly for giving better insight into how the players manage their days during the tournaments.
“I think what she did was awesome for our sport. It got a ton of people looking at it. I think you get your typical older fan maybe like upset about it. I don’t understand how anyone can get upset about it. I’m the one that’s a professional tennis player, I’m the one that does this for a living. I 100% agree with everything in that video. People know a couple, they know what the Grand Slams are, a couple of little things about it, they’re like, What are you talking about?
“No, tennis isn’t talked about on ESPN unless it’s a very select few or under certain circumstances. You’re never going to hear SportsCenter talk about, ‘Oh, so-and-so American won their match at, like, Monte-Carlo.’ It’s not popular like that. It’s nice to see tennis kind of getting more attention. Yeah, I thought what she did was awesome.
“Regardless of the reaction people had from it, I think everyone in the tennis community can agree that it’s good for tennis to kind of almost sell it in a different kind of way, that she would know, she knew her audience would kind of react to,” said Fritz when questioned by journalist Ben Rothenberg about his opinions on Morgan‘s video that has garnered more than 3.5 million views.
Taylor Fritz into the 4th round of the Indian Wells Masters
Currently playing in the 2022 Indian Wells Masters, Fritz had a bye in the first round and won his second-round match in straight-sets against Kamil Majchrzak before surviving a Jaume Munar scare in the round. Fritz defeated Munar 6-4, 6-2, 7-6(2) to reach the 4th round in Indian Wells Masters for the second year running having reached the semi-finals in the 2021 edition.
He will now take on Australian Alex de Minaur for a place in the quarter-finals that will be his best result for the season so far having reached the last-8 in the 2022 Dallas Open as well.
