World No. 12 Emma Raducanu is having a tough time on the Tour with consistent early exits from all the tournaments she is participating in. Having come into the limelight after her fabulous 4th round at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships ranked outside the Top-300, Emma burst onto the scene when she became the first qualifier in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam as she won the 2021 US Open.

Ever since her win in New York, Emma has been approached by many brands to become the face of their product as she continues to rise in popularity after her record-breaking and historic win in the Flushing Meadows. However, as much the people have loved her for her Grand Slam title, she has faced equal or in some cases more criticism as well.

With the rising popularity and subsequently early exits, Emma has been targeted to massive criticism for not focussing on tennis and training and devoting more time towards her off-court commitments. Emma eventually lost her cool with the consistent criticism ignoring the fact that she is in her first full season on the Tour and said, “I’m training 5 or 6 hours a day, I’m at the club 12 hours a day; But I put one post in the car on the way to practice and all of a sudden, I don’t focus on tennis.”

The comment was noticed by former World No. 5 and 2014 Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard who took to her Twitter account and said, “I feel you Emma.” Bouchard was also a revelation when she came on the Tour even winning the WTA Newcomer of the Year award. Similar to Emma, Genie received a lot of brand work at the start of her career for which she was criticised as due to consistent injuries and struggles with fitness, she failed to win titles and fell down in the rankings with her current rank being outside the Top-1000.

Being out with an injury picked up in March 2021, Bouchard had to undergo an operation on her hand that has kept her out for more than a year now. She has however started training as she updates her fan through her official Twitter handle but a comeback date is not yet set for the Canadian who has a long way to return to her original best.

As for Emma, she will be representing Great Britain in the upcoming 2022 Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers set in the second week of April where Emma will make her debut for the senior British team and will be one of the biggest hopes of the nation in order to qualify for the Finals of the prestigious tournament.
