Andrey Rublev speaks on the Russia-Ukraine standoff

During the Dubai Tennis Championships, Andrey took a stand on the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. He said that he wants peace between the two countries and revealed that he gets many negative comments as he is a Russian but he chooses not to react to them.
“Of course I get some bad comments on Internet because I am Russian. I can’t react on them. If I want to have peace, I need to be like doesn’t matter. Even if they throw rocks to me, I need to show I’m for peace, I’m not here to be aggressive or something.
He also said that at this point in time, his match is not important as what’s happening around us is even more troublesome. He appealed that everyone must take care of each other and our planet together.
“In these moments you realize that my match is not important. What’s happening is much more terrible. You realize how important is to have peace in the world and to respect each other no matter what, to be united. We should take care of our earth and of each other,” he said.
On the court, Rublev will face 5th seed Hubert Hurkacz in the semifinal of the 2022 Dubai Tennis Championships.
