Grigor Dimitrov continues to look at ease on the clay courts of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters. On Friday, the Bulgarian remained focused to win a thrilling final set in a tie-break and defeat Hubert Hurkacz to advance to the ATP Masters 1000 semi-finals for the second time. In the face of a strong comeback from 11th seed Hurkacz, the world No. 29 fought deep to win 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(2) and go to his sixth Masters 1000 semi-final.

After the end of the thrilling contest, Grigor Dimitrov elaborated more on his success mantra on the court. “I am just going one day at a time. I have put in the work. That’s all I have done. I am not even thinking of how I am playing or anything like that. I just wanna put in a lot of work.”

The World No.29 went on to say that he is focusing all of his attention on the clay season and that even if he lost the match, he wouldn’t have been disappointed since he has been doing “the right things.” “The season on clay is not so long, so that’s all I am doing right now. Of course, if I would have lost that match, it would have been disappointing, but at the same time I would not be too down on myself because I have been doing the right things”.

Dimitrov won a thrilling fourth set tie-break to reach the Monte Carlo final four for the second year in a row. The Bulgarian secured the only break of the first set to love in the third game and held his advantage with 11th-ranked Hurkacz doing likewise in the second, breaking 4-2 with consecutive drop shots that caught his 29th-ranked opponent off-guard. Nevertheless, after this thrilling contest, Dimitrov will face Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the semifinals. The Spaniard has scored wins against big names like Novak Djokovic and Indian Wells 2022 champion Taylor Fritz and now he will look forward to adding another big win to his tally.
