‘I hope you change your mind!’ Adar Poonawalla RESPECTS Novak Djokovic’s decision to not get vaccinated but wants him to change his mind
Adar Poonawalla and Novak Djokovic
Despite not playing any competitive tennis match for the last 4 months, Novak Djokovic is in the headlines almost every day due to his off-court doings. Djokovic, who is yet to get vaccinated, was deported from Australia last month due to vaccination laws in the country and hence wasn’t allowed to play the Australian Open. A few days ago, Djokovic spoke for the first time about the Australian Open debacle to BBC and expressed his disappointment.
But the highlight of the interview was Djokovic reinforcing that his vaccination stance remains the same and that he won’t get vaccinated even if he had to miss tournaments because of it. The world is divided by Djokovic’s vaccination stance. While some claim that the Serb is doing the right thing by stepping up for himself on what he truly believes in, others say that he is putting millions of lives at risk.
Recently, Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of Serum Institute of India urged Djokovic to reconsider his decision. Poonawalla, who is a huge Djokovic fan said that he respects his personal views but hoped that the Serb will change his mind in near future. He also cheekily said that till the time Djokovic doesn’t play grand slams, others can try winning them.
“I respect your personal views on not getting vaccinated @DjokerNole and love watching you play, but I hope you change your mind. In the meantime, the rest of us now might stand a chance at a Grand Slam,” Poonawalla said.
Novak Djokovic to play at Dubai next week
Meanwhile, Djokovic is all set to return on tour in Dubai next week. He will be headlining the Dubai Tennis Championships, an ATP 500 event as the top seed. This will be the first tournament of the year for Djokovic as he was forced to leave Australia on vaccination grounds in January.
More trouble awaits Djokovic post ATP Dubai as he might be forced to skip Indian Wells Masters and Miami Masters on vaccination grounds. He most likely will also miss the French Open but is confirmed to play the ATP 250 clay-court event in Belgrade.
