World No. 5 and the 5th seed at the 2022 Indian Wells Masters, Stefanos Tsitsipas was tested by World No. 147 and wildcard entrant Jack Sock in the second round. Stef won the match 7-6(5), 6-3, 7-6(5) in a long 2 hour and 34-minute battle to move into the third round of the tournament.

Having received a bye in the first round, Stef started his campaign for Indian Wells directly against Sock who came into the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Juan Manuel Cerundolo. With many expecting Stef to steamroll the low ranked American, the Greek was in for a massive surprise as Sock did not give any loose opportunity and made Tsitsipas work hard for all points.

Sock finished the match with 6 aces, 3 double faults, converted 1 of his 3 break point opportunities and saved all 5 breakpoints while hitting 37 winners and committing 26 unforced errors to finish the match with 104 points. Stef from the other side of the net had 8 aces, 2 double faults, failed to convert a single breakpoint, saved 2 breakpoints, hit 34 winners and 20 unforced errors to narrowly win the match 106 points to his name.

“It was a crazy battle, we both left everything on the ground. Jack was incredibly good at times, but I was able to bring out the best in my game at the end. I proved that I could play aggressive tennis while remaining calm,” said Stefanos after his win over Sock as reported by welovetennis.fr.

With the win over Sock, Stef enters the 3rd round for the second time at Indian Wells having earlier made a run to the quarter-finals in the 2021 Indian Wells. Next up for the Greek star will be Jenson Brooksby who comes into the 3rd round with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Karen Khachanov in a shocking result. Brooksby had earlier defeated Roberto Carballes Baena 6-1, 6-4 in the first round.
