Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has been the favourite of not just the media but also people across the globe. In a short time span, he has gained huge popularity and support. This new season has proved to be lucky for the player as she earned his first title of this season and the second title of his career.

At the end of the 2021 season, he played at the Next Gen ATP Finals tournament and won the finals by defeating Sebastian Korda. He was then seen at the Australian Open 2022 where he won the second round by defeating Dusan Lajovic, but he lost the third round to Matteo Berrettini in a thrilling 5-setter.

Carlos then tried his luck at the ATP Rio Open where he won every match and eventually claimed the title by knocking out Diego Schwartzman in the finals to claim his second title on the Tour and the first ATP-500 title that also saw him become the youngest player since 2004 to break into the Top-20 of the ATP rankings.

Recently in an interview, Pablo Carreno Busta spoke on the 18-year-old Carlos. Both the players seem to have a special bond with each other and the former is like a mentor to the Spaniard. He also said that Carlos is a fast learner and his skills for tennis are commendable. But what he fears the most is sitting beside him while he drives.

“When he’s on the court, he doesn’t look like a boy. He is very mature, but of course, off-court he still has things to improve. Juan Carlos knows what it is to be the No. 1 in the world and as that is Carlos’ goal, he takes care of a lot of things. For example, Juan Carlos really insists that he has to go to bed early. He also helps with things like his mobile phone and Instagram…normal, everyday things, but things you have to control. That’s also good. Carlos is a kid with a lot of room for improvement,” Busta said.

“I’ve managed to help him with certain things, and it’s a genuine pleasure for me. Hopefully, I can continue to help. For me, it would be great news if Carlos learns something from me or watches me, or if I help by training with him. Drop shots, counter drop shots, tricking your opponent…things you do in training when you’re relaxed, but when it comes to matches, they can really help you.

“Things like that, he copies them, and with great ease because he really learns quickly as soon as you show him something. Now he has his driving licence, he can finally take me somewhere in his car,” added Carreno Busta. “But not yet. When he has more experience…I still don’t trust him!”
