Dylan Alcott is undoubtedly an icon in the sporting world The Aussie is a wheelchair tennis player, wheelchair basketball player, radio host and motivational speaker. He Is one of the most inspirational figures in the world of Australian sports, and is also an advocate for disability.

The Aussie has won 15 grand slam quad singles titles and another eight in doubles, and is one of the legends of the game. He was born with a tumour wrapped around his spinal cord, which was successfully removed when he was three weeks old but left him permanently on wheelchairs.

Alcott shares his emotional moment on getting Murray’s message mid-conference

World No. 1 Dylan Alcott faced defeat at the final of the Australian Open 2022, which was his final hurrah before retiring. However, the defeat was overshadowed by an overflow of emotions and a tsunami of tributes for the legendary Australian.

His post-match press conference was interrupted during the back end of the interaction as Alcott’s phone buzzed. He was overwhelmed to see that it was Andy Murray who had texted him, and gave him his greetings and tributes post-retirement.

In the heartwarming and respectful message, Murray called Alcott a rockstar and an inspiration, and thanked him for all he had done for the sport.

“‘I don’t know if I’ve articulated that well but you’re an absolute rockstar and an inspiration. Thanks for everything that you’ve done,”– was Murray’s exact message.

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion and a former World No.1, sent the message post-Alcott’s shock defeat to Dutchman Sam Schroder at Rod Laver Arena to round of his glorious career. The Australian became emotional on receiving the message.

The 31-year-old revealed that the message was special to him and made him feel like crying, He also attributed the special message to be better and more fulfilling than winning any tournament in the world.

“That kills me, that makes me cry, it’s special, you’re part of it, you’re just part of it … It’s so nice. It’s like that everywhere, man. I never thought that would happen. It’s cool, it’s really cool. That’s better than winning a tennis tournament. This is a legend of the sport getting around wheelchair tennis. If it’s good enough for someone like that it’s good enough for everyone.”– were Alcott’s words.
