Andy Murray and Iga Swiatek
The Indian Wells 2021 has begun quite well for World No. 4 on the WTA Tour, Iga Swiatek. Apart from a winning debut at the main-draw at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, the 20-year old also had her dream come true. After her 2nd round win over Petra Martic where she won the match 6-1, 6-3, Swiatek spoke about her life-long dream of having a hitting session with former World No. 1 Andy Murray.
The Brit was kind enough to acknowledge her request and invited her for a joint-practice session on Twitter saying he didn’t have her number. With an invite from the man himself, Iga was right on time for their scheduled practice and apart from their hitting and practice on the court, the duo was seen conversing and enjoying their conversation.
While Iga prepared for her 3rd round match, Murray used the session to prepare for his 2nd round clash as the men’s tour begun a day later than the women’s.
Iga Swiatek to play Veronika Kudermetova, Murray to face Alcaraz
The session with Swiatek would have surely helped Murray in understanding the quick pace game as he is set to face Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the 2nd round. Alcaraz will return to the Tour for the first time since his quarter-final run at the 2021 US Open where he became the youngest quarter-finalist in the history of the US Open in the Open Era.
Alcaraz has received the 30th seed and will make his debut at the Indian Well against Murray who comes into the clash with a straight-set win over France’s Adrian Mannarino.
Iga on the other hand will now face Veronika Kudermetova in the 3rd round as she continues to chase her 3rd title of the season and also the 2nd WTA-1000 title this season having previously won the 2021 Italian Open.
