World No. 1 Iga Swiatek will return to action for the first time since rising to the top of the rankings. Confirming her place at the top with a second-round win in the 2022 Miami Open, the Pole went on to clinch the title as well to win all three WTA-1000 titles of the season so far.
With a brilliant ending to the hardcourt season for Iga, she decided to have a delayed start to the Clay season and take a week’s rest before returning to the Tour. During this time, she will spearhead the Polish team’s campaign at the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers scheduled this week.
Poland will be hosting Romania that will be without Simona Halep and Poland stands a good chance to win their qualifier clash and move into the Finals that will be played later in the season. With Iga rising in popularity globally and also in the rankings, it will be the first homecoming for the 20-year old as the World No. 1.
The match between Poland and Romania will take place at the Radom Sports Centre on Friday, 15th April with the stadium having a capacity of 5000 spectators that has been completely sold out and Iga seems to be the main reason for such a huge crowd coming to the Qualifier clash.
Iga Swiatek to return to Tour on Stuttgart Open
With the BJK Cup Qualifiers wrapping up this week, Iga will return to the Tour most likely at the 2022 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, her first tournament on the WTA Tour as the World No. 1 and playing on her favourite surface, it will surely be a great time for the youngster who will look to extend her lead at the top. In the Poland – Romania clash, Iga will be joined by compatriots Magda Linette, Magdalena Frech, Maja Chwalinska and Alicja Rosolska.
