“I’m not looking for a coach, I can do a good job,” Simona Halep is optimistic about her decision to not hire a coach!

Simona Halep is looking forward to playing at the Dubai Tennis Championship without a coach after she split up with her coaches Dobre and Marcu just days after her fourth-round exit at the Australian Open 2022.

The two-time Grand Slam champion recently parted ways with her coaches Daniel Dobre and Adrian Marcu, following a fourth round-exit at the Australian Open. She had been working with them since September last year. The decision came as surprise because Halep had a decent run at the Australian Open and has already won a title this year at the WTA Melbourne Summer Set 1. However, she chose not to disclose the reasons for ending the partnership.

The former World No.1 revealed she doesn’t have a coach right now and is not keen on looking for one for the time being. She also said she is only having a sparring partner with her for practice, will be coaching herself and is optimistic about doing a good job.

I don’t have a coach right now, I have a sparring partner and he’s traveling with me these days. I didn’t take a decision about the coaching. I’m not looking for a coach, I’m just enjoying my time alone, and hopefully, I can do a good job,” Halep told in an interview with The National in Dubai.

The Romanian added that she is enjoying her newfound freedom and said although it isn’t a convenient situation, she is still looking forward learn from her experiences as a coach.

“I feel a little bit of freedom, so I think I have to enjoy this moment. I won’t say it’s the best situation but I’m looking forward to experiencing it and to see how it goes,” she added.

Halep said she won’t be scouting at tournaments and analyzing her opponent’s moves as she is already familiar with them and has a game plan in mind. “No. I know all the girls and I trust myself that I know how to play some matches,” she further said.

The 30-year-old was temporarily training under Serena Williams’ coach Patrick Mouratoglou, to prepare for the Middle Eastern leg which begins on Monday, but will go into the Dubai Tennis Championships without a coach.
