Daniil Medvedev has never been one of the crowd favorites. The Russian is one of those players who takes on the crowd, and relishes the opportunity of being under the pump. However, during his five-set final loss to Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final on Sunday, the world number two feels that certain lines were crossed by the disrespectful crowd.

Daniil Medvedev was seen arguing with the chair umpire, asking the crowd to be settled as they kept disturbing him during his service games. Moreover, he feels that the crowd carried an-anti Medvedev agenda, as they kept shunning down fans in his support.

The world number two believes that things like these in tennis are very disappointing and disrespectful to any tennis player. He narrated an instance where a fan tried to cheer him on, and he was immediately shunned by thousands of other fans who were in support of Nadal.

Before Rafa serves even in the fifth set, there would be somebody, and I would even be surprised, like one guy screaming, C‘mon, Daniil. A thousand people would be like, Tsss, tsss, tsss. That sound. Before my serve, I didn’t hear it. It’s disappointing. It’s disrespectful, it’s disappointing. I’m not sure after 30 years I’m going to want to play tennis,” said Medvedev.

Difficult to continue playing tennis: Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev said that he will have to take the advice of people around him, and how they make of the situation. Nevertheless, the Russian feels that it will be difficult to continue playing tennis if things like these keep repeating. It almost felt that Medvedev was up against Nadal in addition to the entire crowd.

Yeah, again, depends, people around me, what they going to tell me, how we going to go through this journey together. Again, the kid that was dreaming is not anymore in me after today. It will be tougher to continue tennis when it‘s like this,” he added.

Daniil Medvedev is a natural orator, and speaks what’s going on his mind without any fabrication. He is known for delivering his on-court interviews, and on Sunday at the presser, he laid down a clear marker.

Daniil Medvedev has now been defeated in the finals of the Australian Open in two consecutive years. First, he was defeated by Novak Djokovic in the finals in 2021 in straight sets. However, his loss to Rafa on Sunday will be the one that will hurt him the most because of how near he was to the title.
