“I’m reading”- Iga Swiatek channels her inner bookworm by giving a review of this classic novel
Iga Swiatek
Iga Swiatek continued her stellar campaign at the 2022 Indian Wells with straight-set demolition of Madison Keys in the quarter-finals. The third seed was dominant throughout the match as she made light work of her American Opponent to prevail, 6-0, 6-1.
The Pole will next take on Simona Halep for a spot in the finals. She will be playing her second successive WTA 1000 semi-final, following the Qatar Open. But Swiatek is calm ahead of a tricky clash against 2-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep, she is spending her time off courts channeling her inner bookworm. The 20-year-old has long spoken about her passion for books and is still enjoying her downtime by keeping herself occupied by reading books. Swiatek revealed she is currently reading ‘The Great Gatsby’ by F. Scott Fitzgerald. But she expressed her surprise that the 1925 classic wasn’t as heavy-handed as she imagined.
“I’m reading ‘The Great Gatsby’, but it’s pretty short. I’m surprised. I thought it was longer. Yeah, I started it yesterday and I’m going to be done today. It’s not that fun because I’m used to really heavy books,” she said.
“I love board games, l but it’s not often when I get a chance to play because usually I watch TV shows or read a book. That’s how I spend my time. When I’m back home, meeting my friends, we sometimes play board games. It’s great,” she added.
Iga Swiatek to take on Simona Halep in the semis
Fresh off her triumph in Doha last month, Iga Swiatek has extended her winning streak to 9 matches. The Pole had to come from a set deficit in her earlier rounds but was in impeccable form in the quarter-finals during her straight-set rout of Madison Keys.
She will next square off against 2015 champion Simona Halep in the semi-finals. Both the players have been stellar so far this season and have been on the rise after a mixed season last year. This will be the fourth meeting of the duo, with the Romanian holding an edge in the head-to-head with 2-1. Both Halep and Swiatek have already won a title this year, with the former winning the WTA Melbourne Summer Set 1 earlier this year and the Pole clinching the Qatar Open.
