BUSTED! Rafael Nadal shut’s up reporter with a classic reply!

Rafael Nadal

Former World No.1 Rafael Nadal had a poor 2021 by his extremely high standards. His season was marred with injuries, which led him to cut short his season as the Spaniard ended his season back in August.

After making a comeback at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship but failing to win a single match at the tournament, the 34-year old tested positive for Covid-19 post the tournament, throwing his Australian Open participation in serious doubt. However, with the Spaniard recovering and confirming his presence at the year’s opening Grand Slam, Nadal would hope to perform well at the tournament after winning the ATP Melbourne Summer Set 2020.

In an interview recently, Rafael Nadal recently had to correct a reporter who was propagating wrong information about him. During the interview, while asking a question about Nadal’s comparative lack of success at the Australian Open, the reporter had mentioned that Nadal had not reached any semi-finals at the Australian Open since his win at the tournament in 2009. Nadal then proceeded to correct the reporter, politely letting him know that he had reached the final of the tournament 4 times since his aforementioned win, that is in 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2018.

“I just wanted to ask, you haven’t reached the semifinals at the Australian Open since you won the title in 2009. I just wondered if there’s anything you find difficult or challenging about the conditions compared to other Grand Slams. Also, do you think that this year it’s not normal for you to play a warmup tournament at Melbourne Park because that option hasn’t been there in the past? Do you think that will help you?” the reporter had asked.

“I am very sorry to tell you – I don’t want to – but I have been in the final of 2012, ’14, ’17, ’18. I got injured a couple of times here in my tennis career, so of course it’s been a great tournament for me, and of course I had a lot of challenges in terms of injuries in this event. Sorry to correct you,” Nadal replied.

Nadal’s favourite tournament is undoubtedly the French Open. However, the Spaniard would aim to finally win his second Australian Open this year after several rivals are set to miss the tournament owing to Covid related issues.
