Over the years there have been some debates on how the fifth set should be decided as some people were strongly in favour of the fifth set tiebreak while the others thought it to be not good enough. Recently ahead of his Monte Carlo Masters opener, Novak Djokovic advocated for the fifth set super tiebreak on media day.

After hearing his opinion three time Grand Slam winner, Stanislas Wawrinka shared his thoughts on the matter. He opined on how different formats in different Grand Slam intrigue him. But then also agreed that everything will not happen depending on how he pleases so knowing his wish is practically of no use. But he shared how he does not agree with Djokovic as he opined how it is impossible to please everyone in today’s world.

“There is nothing that comes to me right away when I try to know if I am for it or not. I just saw that they were all going to do the same. In the end, I liked when the Grand Slam tournaments had a different format, it was good. Anyway, it’s impossible to find a single thing that pleases everyone. You understood it’s not what I prefer that they are all the same, but that’s how it is. We do not have a choice,” Wawrinka revealed

A few weeks ago four Grand Slam accepted the fifth set tiebreaker rule which not everyone is a fan of especially the people at the Roland Garros. The rule was such that a tiebreaker of 10 points was to be played when there is a 6-6 tie in the fifth set.

When asked about his stance on the fifth set tiebreaker, World No. 1 Novak Djokovic supported the reform as he feels that there will be more memorable fifth set finishes. He gave the example of John Isner and Nicholas Mahut‘s iconic longest game and feels that it will bring more audiences from different walks to watch more tennis.

There are bound to be memorable fifth sets in the history of the Grand Slams, the one between Isner and Mahut immediately comes to mind because it is the longest of all. This one is inscribed in gold letters in the history of tennis. Many remember this match which aroused a lot of interest in our sport among a wider audience, coming from other sports for example. But in a bigger perspective, I agree with the fifth set tie‐break, I support this decision from all Grand Slams,” Djokovic opined.
