Andrey Rublev had a somewhat disappointing Australian Open 2022, exiting at the third round to an admittedly difficult match against Marin Cilic.

The Russian also skipped the ATP Cup at the start of the new season to rest and recover, thus making it not an ideal start to 2022. However, the 24-year-old has now reached the quarter-finals of the currently ongoing ATP Rotterdam Open, which has brought forward an incredible stat about the Russian.

As Andrey Rublev eased past Kwon Soon-Woo in the round of 16 of the ATP Rotterdam Open, an incredible stat came into focus. After reaching the quarter-final of the tournament yesterday, the Russian now has won 23 matches in a Row at ATP 500 events between 2020 and 2021, which is the second-longest winning run in ATP 500 history. The highest is none other than a certain Roger Federer, who won 28 consecutive matches between 2014 and 2016.

Federer, who is a 20-time Grand Slam champion, won 28 ATP 500 matches on the trot between 2014 and 2016. After Federer, Rublev and Murray, the fourth-longest such streak belongs to Rafael Nadal, with his 19-match winning run between 2012 and 2013.

Rublev started his incredible run at the Hamburg European Open, where he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final to win the title. He followed it up with a title triumph in front of his home crowd at the St. Petersburg Open, beating Borna Coric in the final. He then went on to win the Erste Bank Open in Vienna, after which he is currently competing at the ATP Rotterdam Open, where he has now reached the quarter-finals. He would now look to continue the hot streak against Marton Fucsovics in tomorrow’s last-8 clash.

As he defeated Kwon yesterday, he also set yet another milestone, as Rublev has now reached atleast the quarter-final stage at his last 11 ATP-500 tournaments in a row. He hasn’t lost before the quarterfinals of an ATP 500 since Beijing in 2019, almost two and a half years ago.
