Indian challenge ends at French Open 2021 as Sumit Nagal, Ankita Raina and Ramkumar Ramanathan all crash out

Sumit Nagal‘s defeat in the 2nd qualifying round ended the Indian Challenge at the French Open 2021.
Nagal lost the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 against Chilean player Alejandro Tabilo in 1hour and 30minutes. Tabilo is one round away from entering the main draw and will face Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz in the final round of the qualifiers.
While Nagal was able to win both of his break points, Alejandro dominated the game both by his service and on the return, two parameters on which Nagal struggled badly and eventually resulted in his defeat. Nagal could manage only 57 points while Tabilo won 72 points in his victory.
Earlier in the day, Ankita Raina also bowed out from the tournament after a straight-set defeat against Belgian player Greet Minnen. The Belgian won 6-2, 6-0 dishing out a bagel for the Indian in the second set and will now play against Australian player Ellen Perez for a place in the main draw of the tournament.
Raina hit 18 winners to Minnen’s 17 but her unforced errors eventually costed her tha match along with her poor returns on the Belgian’s service, winning only 5/19 points on return, while Greet won 11/17 points on return. Minnen earned 69 total points as Raina could manage only 45 and bowed out from the Grand Slam.

Ramkumar Ramanathan also faced a similar fate as his fellow countrymen losing in straight-sets. Playing against Denis Istomin, Ramanthan lost in just over an hour with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-2 for Denis. While both the players struggled on the 2nd serve, Denis dominated on the 1st serve grabbing 27/31 points.
Ramanathan had 4 double faults to go with his 21 unforced errors while Denis kept it clean with just 1 solitary double fault and 9 unforced errors in his win that will see him qualify for the final round of the qualifiers. Denis will now play against German player Tobias Kamke in his bid to qualify for the main draw at the Roland Garros.
The main draw ceremony for the French Open 2021 is scheduled on the 27th May, 2021 with the first round matches set to begin from the 30th May, 2021 with Women’s Singles Finals on 12th June, 2021 followed by the Men’s Singles Finals on the 13th June, 2021.
