“It is nice to see him healthy,” former World No.1 Andy Roddick believes Roger Federer is ‘confident in his recovery’

Roger Federer has posted new workout footage as he continues to recover from his third knee surgery. The 40-year-old missed the most of the 2020 season due to double knee surgery and only appeared in five tournaments in 2021 before having to have surgery for the third time. He had stated that he hoped to learn more about a possible comeback in April or May after beginning proper training for the first time since his August surgery.
As he prepares to return to competition, Federer has been providing fans with sneak peeks into his training sessions. Following the release of three photographs from his practice on Monday, the 20-time Major champion has shared more in a new Instagram Reel, which shows him executing various drills. The 40-year-old is seen practising his footwork and swings with a metal pole, which he looks to be replicating his backhand and forehand moves with.
In light of this, former World No. 1 Andy Roddick has made his thoughts regarding Federer’s return to the court public.
“Hopefully there’s good news”- Andy Roddick

Andy Roddick, the former World No. 1, expressed his opinions on Federer’s comeback in an interview with Tennis Channel. As per him, the ‘Swiss Maestro’ is ‘confident in his recovery’. In his words, “Like we said the other day, I do not think Roger posts something like this unless he is confident in his recovery.”
The 39-year-old also believes that positive news is on the way for Federer’s recovery, as he continues to share his training videos on social media. “He has been playing it close to the vest the entire way. If he is doing something like this and posting it continuously, hopefully, there’s good news.”
Nevertheless, the American ended his statement by saying, “But at the very least, it looks like we are going to see him in court again. I don’t think he would post stuff like this to the extent to which we see him. Is it gonna be for a tournament? You don’t know but it is nice to see him healthy.”
Roger Federer plans to return to action towards the end of the year

During a recent interview, Roger Federer was asked about his comeback plans. The Swiss expects to return to action before the end of the year. “I still have to wait a little bit with running,” Federer said. “I hope I can increase that more and more over the next few months and hopefully make a comeback in the middle or end of 2022.”
He also stated that choosing the third treatment for his knee was the ‘right thing’ to do because the pain was becoming unbearable. “The surgery was the right thing,” he said. “The knee was no longer good after Wimbledon. It couldn’t go on like this. I’m fine. I walked on crutches for 2 months and had to start all over again.”
