World No.1 Novak Djokovic had captured the headlines for a long time because of his prolonged visa saga. The player was eventually deported to his nation after many days of investigation and court appeals.

Alongside his visa and stand against vaccination rows, the World No.1 was also blighted by another controversy after it came to be known that he had attended public events despite positive testing for the virus. Following his tumultuous times in Australia, the Serbian is finally set to return to action next week at the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships.

In a recent Match Points podcast episode on Tennis Majors, Marion Bartoli, Carole Bouchard, and Simon Cambers speculated on Novak Djokovic’s stand on vaccination. This came after Djoker’s first public interview lost the Australian fiasco, in which he said that he was willing to sacrifice tournaments and titles in order to stay put on his stand to not get vaccinated.

During the interview, former French Open champion Marion Bartoli expressed her surprise at what Djokovic said in the interview. Bartoli had felt that all the things Novak had to go through in France would make him change his mind and get vaccinated finally, and there were some rumors about it too. Thus, to see an interview in which the World No.1 projects the complete opposite thoughts was surprising according to Bartoli.

“I was very surprised because my initial thoughts were that he is getting vaccinated after all that happened in Australia, and that is what rumors I heard…so to get the complete reverse opinions was a bit of a shock, to be honest, and then reading through it exactly sounds like Novak.”– said Bartoli.

Bartoli then went on to reflect on the interview, calling it ’expected’ of the Serbian despite her initial surprise. The 37-year-old said that Djokovic is a stubborn man, and once he has started supporting something, it is very difficult to make him change.

“Carole said, he’s stubborn in all his ideas…when he believed into something there is no way you can change is mind, and he believed that getting something injected into his body right now will probably change the way he feels,” added the Frenchwoman.

She then concluded her thoughts by making note that no one would have thought a couple of years ago that the most anticipated race for most Grand Slam wins would eventually come down to one of the competitors not even being allowed to play in tournaments.

“No one could have believed a couple of years ago that who’ll win the most Grand Slams would eventually come down to this.”– concluded Bartoli.
