‘It was always the people I was surrounded by!’ Ashleigh Barty recounts “memories to last a lifetime” post retirement
Ash Barty
The first Australian in 44 years to win the Australian Open, Ashleigh Barty had recently announced her retirement. It was a big surprise that someone so young and at the pinnacle of a sporting career would retire. Barty chose to put down her racquet when most people would love to carry on, rake on more career wins, and chase after other milestones.
Nevertheless, Barty deemed it fit that she retire from the sport as the world’s number 1 ranked female player. In a recently posted Instagram video by Tennis Australia, Barty looks back happily at her past and says she has been going through the recent photographs and memories of her tennis career.
She says that beginning from when she was just a young prodigy, she has never found herself alone in a photo in her victories, losses, and even in her practice sessions. She expresses joy and gratitude for the people who have been there for her, supporting her game, supporting her mentally, or just being there as a shoulder to rest upon.
The support system that made Ash Barty a champion
We have always come across exceptional people who achieved extraordinary success in their respective fields. We have not seen the moving parts behind the machinery that is a player. We have not seen a group of people who have supported them in every step of their journey. The mentors who made sure that they took the correct step, friends, and family were the emotional support for the daunting tasks the players had chosen to undertake.
Barty has now begun another phase in her life after retiring from professional tennis. However, she has made it abundantly clear that she has always been and still remains grateful to the people who have been there for her. Barty knows that she was fortunate to have people supporting her dreams and having faith in her abilities. They were willing to put in just as much as she was to help her become one of the icons of Women’s Tennis.
The Tennis World would undoubtedly miss Ashleigh Barty, her fierce fighting spirit, her calm head, and the quality of tennis she brought with herself game after game, the brand of tennis that make Champions.
