Coco Gauff has been in incredible form this week in Rome. The American teenager defeated Yulia Putinseva in three sets in the first round. She defeated Maria Sakkari in another three sets in the second round. The 17-year old has shown immense courage so far, and has held her nerve during vital parts of the match.

Coco Gauff secured a straight sets victory over Aryna Sabalenka in the third round. This was her most impressive victory of the tournament, as the seventh seed was coming on the back of the Madrid Open 2021 title. She survived a scare in the quarterfinals, as Ashleigh Barty had to withdraw from the match, despite being a set up against the American.

Iga Swiatek received a walkover in the first round, after Allison Riske withdrew from the match in the first set itself. The 19-year old then defeated Madison Keys in the second round in straight sets. She scored a comeback victory against Barbora Krejcikova in three sets in the third round.

Her quarterfinal match against Elina Svitolina was postponed to Saturday, after rain halted the play on the previous day. Swiatek was already up a set after first day’s play, and completed the job on Saturday, as he won the second set and progressed into the semifinals.

The semifinal clash will see two teenagers battle it out against each other for a place in the finals. The French Open 2020 champion, Iga Swiatek enters as the favorite to win the match, as she has a vast range of shots up her sleeve. She is an aggressive returner of the ball, and always wants to dominate the opponent. Swiatek broke Elina Svitolina five times during their quarterfinal clash, and served well throughout the match.

Coco Gauff will try to match Iga Swiatek’s aggression, as she is known to be powerful player. Last year, the American’s serve was a major point of concern, however, she has shown signs of improvement in her second serve this season. She managed to win over 70% of her points on first serve against Aryna Sabalenka in the third round.
