Stefanos Tsitsipas addressed the speculations regarding possible coaching change after he was spotted training under Thomas Enqvist ahead of the Rotterdam Open. He also clarified whether his father, Apostolos is still coaching him or not.

The Greek appears to be back in form after a topsy-turvy start to his season. He lost his ATP Cup tie against Diego Schwartzman before receiving a walkover in the next match. But he shrugged his poor start with a brilliant performance at the Australian Open. After struggling in the opening rounds, Tsitsipas put on a stellar display to knock out Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals, but then lost to bitter rival Daniil Medvedev in the controversial semi-final match, in which he was handed a code violation for receiving coaching advice mid-match.

The 23-year-old is currently playing at the ATP Rotterdam Open and has advanced to the quarter-finals. After a tricky encounter in the first-round against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the Greek breezed past his second-round opponent Ilya Ivashka to inch closer to his first title of the year.

Tsitsipas revealed that Enqvist is an important addition to his team as he will gain new perspectives and ideas and also added Swede’s experience will be beneficial to him.

Enqvist is an addition to my team, that’s what he is. It’s important to have a person like him on my team. Enqvist has a lot of experience on the tour and I respect him a lot. The reason Thomas is here is to help me, give me another perspective and give me some ideas. I’m here to listen whatever he has to told me. We have good energy between us,” said Tsitsipas during a press conference following his second-round win at the Rotterdam Open.

Thomas Enqvist is a former Swedish tennis player and has a career-high ranking of World No.4. While he has no experience of coaching a player individually before, he was the vice-captain of Team Europe at the Laver Cup, which Tsitsipas is a part of.

While there were speculations that Tsitsipas might have axed his father as a coach, after receiving complaints and multiple code violations in recent times, about on-court coaching. But the Greek made it clear that his father, Apostolos is still his coach and didn’t travel to Rotterdam, so that he could receive coaching from Enqvist. But he hasn’t revealed how long Enqvist will be part of his coaching team.
