‘It’s time for a comeback!’ Stan Wawrinka and Dominic practice ahead of comeback match at the Marbella Challenger

Dominic Thiem and Stan Wawrinka

While the Miami Open has been grabbing the spotlight, looks like this year the Marbella Challenger 2022 will also be grabbing some of that spotlight with top seed contenders like Stan Wawrinka and Dominic Thiem. But even before the main event, the practice match that took place between the two stars was a dazzling event that proved their potential before the actual event.

Wawrinka was a little weak with the serves in the beginning but he was extremely confident with his baseline. Therefore, the first set was won by Wawrinka in a tie-breaker. In the second set, Wawrinka won by a lead of 5-4. Thiem constantly shouted at himself to perform better while Wawrinka was very steady with his shots. However, this match shouldn’t be considered too seriously as Thiem was experimenting with his shots during the practice and the real match will determine the outcome of the match.

Thiem will be facing Pedro Cachin, while Wawrinka will face Elias Ymer that will determine whether they will meet in the challengers or not.

Dominic Thiem- Stan Wawrinka rivalry

Austrian player Dominic Thiem has not played since the wrist injury he suffered in Mallorca before 2021 Wimbledon and therefore had to miss the rest of the season. He quoted,” I’m really disappointed not to be able to defend the title in New York but I haven’t recovered from the wrist injury I suffered back in June at the Mallorca Open.”

Wawrinka on the other hand had not played since the Qatar Open in early March 2021. The three-time grand slam champion has had a foot injury and had to undergo surgery in early 2021.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see the outcome of the upcoming matches for fans and sports spectators to decide who will emerge as victor.
