Besides the Big three, Juan Martin del Potro was one of the most talented players that the world saw in the past two decades. He was one of the only players to compete and defeat the big three on-demand, on any surface.

del Potro wasn’t able to win a lot of grand slams and had an on and off career due to his knee. He has been suffering from the injury for a long time and never wanted to cave in and give up his career to the injury. However, he recently decided to put an end to his career after playing his last tournament in his home country of Argentina.

The 2009 US Open champion, while announcing his retirement remembered some of the greatest moments of his career. According to him beating Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer to win the US Open title was a unique experience. He also talked about his magnificent comeback to professional tennis in 2016 and almost winning his second grand slam title.

Despite suffering from such a major injury, Juan Martin del Potro had one of the most exciting tennis careers. He was one of the most enthralling players to watch and he managed to defeat some of the greats in the prime of their careers.

Undoubtedly one of the most precious moments in del Potro’s career was winning the US Open by first defeating the Spanish Bull Rafael Nadal and then defeating the Swiss Maestro Roger Federer in the finals.

In his interview, he said, “The last two days of the US Open, against Nadal and Federer, were unique. What I experienced in Davis Cup was a dream. And personally, the Rio Games were very nice, There is the podium… [it] can [help] overcome everything because they make me feel it.”

del Potro also made Argentina win the Davis Cup for the first time and also won a Silver medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. He was a great champion of the game and will always continue to be so. His fans will be desperately hoping for him to get better and make a surprise comeback like Andy Murray.
