Karolina Pliskova books her spot in the WTA Finals 2021, qualifies for the Finals for the 5th straight time

World No. 3 Karolina Pliskova became the 4th player to qualify for the WTA Finals 2021 which will be held in Guadalajara in Mexico from November 10 to November 17. The Czech Republican has seen a resurgence after a disappointing season last year. She is yet to win a title this season but has been very consistent in her tournament appearances including the Grand Slam events.
She had earlier been at the receiving end of Iga Swiatek‘s dominating win in the finals of the 2021 Italian Open where the Polish youngster won the match 6-0, 6-0 in a record 46 minutes. But she came back strong at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships where she came agonisingly close to her maiden Grand Slam title but had to settle for the runners-up trophy against World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty.
After a 3rd round defeat at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Pliskova made a consistent and fabulous return on the Tour reaching the finals of the 2021 Canadian Open and then a semi-final run at the 2021 Cincinnati Open. She reached the quarter-finals of the 2021 US Open and because of these consistent runs, she picked up enough points to see her qualify for the WTA Finals this year.
Karolina turned Pro in 2009 but had to wait till 2016 to qualify for her first WTA Finals week. Since then, she has qualified every single year except for the 2020 season when the competition was not held due to Covid restrictions. Pliskova reached the semi-finals in 2017, 2018 and 2019 but is yet to win the year-end championship title.

Ashleigh Barty became the first woman this season to qualify for the WTA Finals, confirming her spot after the conclusion of the US Open this year. Barty has won 5 titles from 6 finals this season which include the 2021 Wimbledon, two WTA-1000 titles, the 2021 Miami Open and the 2021 Cincinnati Open. She also finished runner up at the 2021 Madrid Open.
World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka has also enjoyed success this season. The 23-year old Belarusian won the 2021 Madrid Open and also the 2021 Abu Dhabi Open at the start of the season. She has been fairly consistent, reaching the semi-finals of the 2021 Wimbledon and also the 2021 US Open.
2021 French Open winner Barbora Krejcikova became the first player since 2016 to qualify for the WTA Finals in both the Singles and Doubles discipline. She won two more titles at the 2021 Prague Open and the 2021 Strasbourg Open and has been consistent in other tournaments as well earning her qualification in both the disciplines.
With 4 more spots up for grabs for the finals, the race is still wide open for other players with 2 more months of action left.
