‘King Richard’ sells 1,50,000 tickets in 1 month, overtakes lifetime sell of Borg vs McEnroe

‘King Richard‘, the biopic on Richard Williams, father of Venus and Serena Williams is creating records of its own having hit the theatres just a month ago. The biographical drama was released on 19th November and in just 1 month has already sold 1,50,000 tickets.
The movie has not only received praise from tennis fans who were waiting to see the initial journey of the Williams sisters, but also from cinema lovers in general with critics also praising the movie for the story and acting of Will Smith who is portraying Richard Williams while actors Saniyya Sidney who stars as Venus Williams and Demi Singleton portraying Serena Williams have also garnered praise.

Despite the movie being simultaneously released on the online streaming platform of HBO, the movie as of December 16, 2021, the movie has grossed $14.6 million in the United States and Canada, and $10.4 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $25 million as per the numbers mentioned on Wikipedia.
The film made $1.9 million on its first day and went on to debut to just $5.7 million. Despite having a 145-minute runtime, the film made $4.8 million over the five-day Thanksgiving frame, including $3.3 million in its second weekend. In its third weekend, the film earned $1.2 million. King Richard dropped out of the box office top ten in its fourth weekend, earning at least half a million dollars.
