Chris Rock and Will Smith

Everybody who was watching the entertainment news, all know the infamous slap that Chris Rock received from Will Smith for making a bad joke about the former’s wife Jada Smith‘s baldness due to Alopecia which was not taken kindly by Smith who then slapped Chris Rock on live telecast during the Oscars 2022.

For those of you who are not aware, Chris Rock made a joke that compared Jada Smith to Demi Moore in the movie GI Jane. While Jada could be seen rolling her eyes, Will Smith went and slapped rock, saying, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f—ing mouth”

Seems like the cost of letting his anger go out in the public has taken a toll on the King Richard actor, who was resigned from the member of the academy the very same night and later apologized for letting go of his anger. At one point, the Oscar committee also discussed revoking the award that was to be given to Will Smith.

Will Smith is no doubt one of the finest actors of his generation. But the infamous incident at the Oscars is causing filmmakers to reconsider offering him a role in their films. One of the most prominent cases in this scenario is Netflix putting a hold on the project Fast and Loose, in which the actor plays a crime boss who has memory loss. To add to the woes, the film’s director David Leitch had decided to quit the film prior to the Oscar which further creates bad publicity for the film.

Bad Boys 4, a film starring Will Smith has also been put on hold due to the repercussions of the incident. It has been reported that the filmmakers had given the script a few days prior to the Oscars and the hold on the project means that they are second-guessing their options. Will Smith has also appeared in a drama called Emancipation which is still in post-production. The fate of the drama is unknown as to whether the producers will distance themselves from the actor and go ahead with the promotion.

While there are problems faced the working on films side, the actor may also have to hear more disciplinary actions from the Oscar Committee. What do you all think? Does Will Smith deserve so much backlash from his Hollywood contemporaries or was what he did justified?
