Kvitova comes into this match after winning her previous match against Arantxa Rus in straight sets. The 31-year-old has not been very consistent on the tour this year. Although she made the finals in Doha, earlier in the year, quarterfinals in Cincinnati and semis in Ostrava last week, the Czech is yet to win a title for 2021.
The two-time Wimbledon champion has never won the event at Indian Wells and will be keen on playing to her potential this week in the Californian desert. With only 16 wins as compared to nine defeats for the year on the hard courts, it will not be an easy task for Kvitova.
On the other hand, it has been a very disappointing season for the two-time Grand Slam champion on the tour. Although Azarenka did make deep runs in a couple of tournaments, her performances have been scratchy. Moreover, injuries have continued to plague the Belarusian throughout 2021, owing to which she was even forced to withdraw from her match in Chicago against Garbine Muguruza last week.
However, Azarenka did manage to beat Magda Linette in the previous round at Indian Wells. Above all, the 32-year-old is a former champion at this event and will surely be a force to reckon with.

These two ladies have met eight times on the WTA tour, with Kvitova leading Azarenka 5-3. They last met at St. Petersburg in 2019, where the Czech beat the Belarusian in three sets.

After having clashed multiple times on the tour, both players will know what to expect from each other. While Kvitova will rely on her serve to unsettle her opponent, Azarenka would be keen on grinding the lanky Czech. Although both will enter this contest with a realistic chance of winning, the two-time Wimbledon is likely to have a slight edge.
Match Prediction: Petra Kvitova should win in three sets.
